We are a team of discipline-based education researchers committed to improving graduate and undergraduate education in the life sciences. Dr. Reid's lab focuses on several key areas biology including graduate education in biology, inclusion and representation of marginalized groups in biology, and promoting equitable and inclusive biology education. We have several current projects aimed at improving biology education (and discipline-based education research) in these focal areas (see Research Projects page). We conduct research that is both theoretical and empirical as well as interdisciplinary - drawing from fields such as psychology, sociology, developmental psychology, and mathematics education. Our research methods include qualitative data analysis (phenomenology, case-study), quantitative data analysis, and social network analysis.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
In the Reid research group, we respect and acknowledge the lived experiences of all students through our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. We aim to create a safe and welcoming space for researchers, teachers, collaborators, and students of all races, ethnicities, orientations, genders, disability statuses, economic backgrounds, religions/belief systems, and geographic origins. We believe that individuals should be able to bring their full selves into whatever spaces they choose without fear of judgement or restriction. Black Lives Matter. Love is love. In our this lab, one way we engage in inclusive practices is through being life-long learners, receiving feedback, and using that new knowledge to change our approaches.
